5 BOOKS TO DREAM THE RAIN AWAY

So it seems our heat wave has been washed away by some torrential looking rain yesterday. There is only one thing to do in this type of weather and that is daydream. Here are our  book picks to help you dream the rainy days away.

1. The Perks Of Being A Wallflower - Stephen Chbosky

If you've seen the movie you will have already had your heart warmed by Emma Watson and her pals. The book (as always) is far more in depth then the film, and visits some pretty dark places with the main character Charlie. Perfect for those days when you need a good cry.

2. Mao's Last Dancer - Li Cunxin

If you're in the mood for some autobiographical reading, you cannot turn past this one. This follows Li from a child struggling to survive in communist China, to one of the world's biggest and brightest ballet stars. It's hard to believe that the story of Li is real life, but certainly a goodie for those times when you need a lift. Just goes to show, absolutely EVERYONE can achieve big things!

3. The Lovely Bones - Alice Sebold

This was a story that I thought I would never get sucked into. A book about a child that is murdered and her familiy's quest to solve the mystery of where she ended up. Her ghost narrates the story which turns out to be a lovely one. Now, ghosts and murders are two of my least favourite topics but this story goes beyond the narrative and manages to get you hooked from the first sentence. Perfect for those boring days, but make sure you have the entire day because you won't be able to put it down!

4. Charlie and the Chocolate Factory - Roald Dahl

Everybody knows the book and everybody knows the films. This one is just great to get in touch with your inner child. Let your imagination roam free!

1984 - George Orwell

We had to throw a good old classic in there of course. I think that probably everyone would have had to read this at school or university and I remember my teacher explaining it to us as something very similar to 'big brother'. Read this one during those times when you want to use your brain and and inspire some curiosity.

We hope this helps you get on with your rainy day programs and hopefully that beautiful sun will be back with us quick smart!
